Hemlock Lake, North Boat Launch – Directions

Directions to the Hemlock Lake North Boat Launch

From Hemlock: Head south on 15A. At 0.7miles past the intersection with 20A, take the first right onto Rix Hill Rd into the Hemlock Lake Park. Take the first left and follow the east lake road to the boat launch.

From Springwater: Head north on 15A for 10.1 miles. Turn left on Rix Hill Rd and an immediate left on East Lake Rd. Follow this road to the boat launch.

Conesus Lake Inlet DEC parking lot – Sliker Rd – Directions

From Springwater: Take Rt15 North for 7.5 miles. Turn left on Co Rd 33 (Sliker Hill Rd) just after Stagecoach Road (Co Rd 71, Rt255). The parking lot is on the left (south) side of Sliker Hill Rd just after the bridge over the inlet and before Route 256.
From Dansville: Go north on Rt 256 about 11 miles. Turn right on Sliker Hill Rd. The parking area is on the right just before the bridge.
From Rochester: Take I390 South to Exit 8 (Geneseo). Take 20A East to Rt 256. Turn Right on 256 (W Lake Road). Go 8 miles (the full length of the lake). Turn left on Sliker Hill Rd. The parking area is on the right just before the bridge.

Canadice Lake South Canoe Launch – Directions

Directions to the South Canoe Launch, Canadice Lake.  Click here for a Google Map showing the Canoe Launch (the blue stickpin).  NOTE: the Canoe Launch is 1.5 miles south of the motor boat launch site.

From Springwater: Purcell Hill access: Go North on 15A for 7.6 miles.  Turn right on Purcell Hill.  At the end of Purcell Hill Rd, turn right onto Canadice Lake Rd on the east side of the lake.  The Canoe Launch is 2.9 miles south.

From Springwater: Johnson Hill access: Go North on 15A for 2.7 miles. Bear right on Old Bald Hill Rd S and then an immediate right on Johnson Hill Rd. Take the first left onto Canadice Lake Rd. The Canadice Canoe Launch is 1.8 miles north of Johnson Hill Rd.

From Honeoye: Take Co Rd 37 South from 20A, Turn right after 3.7mi to stay on Co Rd 37. Stay straight onto Burch Hill Rd. At the lake, turn left onto Canadice Lake Rd. The Canadice Canoe Launch is 2.1 miles south of Burch Hill Rd.

From Hemlock and Rochester: Take NY Rt 15A south from Rochester through Lima and Hemlock.  Just past Hemlock, Rt 20A  goes left.  Continue straight on 15A for 3,2 miles after 20A.  Turn left on Purcell Hill.  At the end of Purcell Hill Rd, turn right onto Canadice Lake Rd on the east side of the lake.  The Canoe Launch is 2.9 miles south.

American Witchhazel: This weeks plant to look for

Witchhazel, Hamamelis virginiana is an understory small tree or shrub that is common in the Finger Lakes. The Witchhazel PlantIn the fall the coarsely toothed leaves turn a beautiful golden color. What is even more remarkable is they start to flower in the fall after its leaves turn. The yellow flowers have four crinkled narrow petals. This is the last woody plant to flower in the area. Pollination is done by a moth and the capsules take a year to mature. So the old brown capsules you see on the plant are 2 years old. The capsules that are ripe now are light green in color. They were flowers last fall.
