Genesee Valley Conservancy (GVC) presents an interpretive hike program (event) at Indian Fort Nature Preserve. Start time is 9AM on Saturday August 15th, 2015, with unspecified end time (but a guess would be by 11AM). Here is a link to the GVC website for GVC event listings.
The following event is planned by the Genesee Valley Conservency.
Bring your own craft and enjoy the beautiful waters of the Genesee River.
Drop your craft in Mount Morris (behind Park Inn Liquor/Genesee Valley Resturant) (someone will keep an eye on your gear as you go to park), then proceed to the Indian Fort Nature Preserve to park your vehicle (this will be the ending point of the float). Transports will bring you back to Mt. Morris to start the float.
Meetup and parking will begin at 9am and we’ll get started on the water at 10am.
We’ll make a stop and provide some snacks, feel free to pack a lunch if you like!
*There is no cost, but you will be asked to sign-in and complete a waiver at the event.
*Event supported by Steuben Trust Company
update 7/9/2015: Thoughts for your paddling comfort in shifting gears from our recent rainy grey skies to Saturdays predicted warmth and high sunshine angles. Checklist: Hat with a visor or brim that will stay on in windy conditions, and not end up in the river. Sunglasses to cut reflection off the water and from overhead sunrays, again that will stay on, perhaps with a floating lanyard. Light highly breathable clothing for sun reflection to prevent sunburn. Sunscreen on uncovered areas including you face.
4th Annual Hiker’s Jamboree, Saturday, February 14th, 2015 10:00AM ’til approx 12:00Noon. Sponsored by Penfield Trails Committee, to be held at Penfield Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Ave (aka NYS Rt 286), located just east of Jackson Rd and west of Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd (aka NYS Rt 250).
This is a free event, no admittance fee. This event is not an actual hike itself, it is about hiking topics and concerns, etc.
The design of the event is to have a presentation of perhaps ~ an hour that is of interest to hiking groups and groups which share vision and commonality as related to hiking and open space conservation efforts, hiking trail development, maintenance, etc. Following the presentation there is an opportunity for all attendees to network among the many members of groups present. Each group that attends is invited to (not required) have a display table with any salient info they wish to provide for informative purposes and more. Challenges, successes, upcoming events, and much more are all fodder for sharing and discussion. Networking among varied hiking groups / members, happenings on any number of related topics, and specifically discussion of ideas and efforts to link trails established and maintained by various groups in efforts to provide an increased network of trails that connect.
Geography/demographics hoped to draw upon for attendance at this free event is hiking groups and related in approx a 50 mile radius of Penfield. So, probably worth having any area hiking group (S/T included) informing its members of this event for possible participation. Penfield Trails maintains an internet presence thru Penfield Parks & Rec. – Penfield Trails URL link.
