One thought on “Summer Hike Schedule

  1. I will not be offering to Hike Plan any Summer 2017 ST hike, but I’ll offer some suggestions as potential toward filling out the schedule.

    (1) A quintessential hike & water frolic and summer swim at Stony Brook State Park. ST has hiked at SBSP a number of times (so many ST hikers are familiar with the park) but I do not recall a summer hike there … July, August, very early Sept. Rick Henchen and Ann Lafford have knowledge here in particular, as do some other hikers who slip my mind at present.

    (2) Cohocton – at Tumble Hill Campground for a hike, or perhaps closeby, and an after-hike social and swim at the nearby Town of Cohocton recreation where there is a swimming pool. Optimally this would be before mid-August, as the pool at the recreation area closes for the season sometime in the later half of August if I recall correctly. Gene planned this a few years back (early August I think was the date), but due to rain rain it was canceled. Both Gene & Marty have expertise here for Hike Planning past hikes. And since Cheryl is a Cohocton resident she too may very well be “in the know”. FYI, while I am not sure, I think I heard that the owner when ST hiked at Tumble Hill (Debra Barrington) has sold Tumble Hil,l and it is now under new ownership. Perhaps offering to sync a ST hike for benefit of participation of campers at Tumble Hill, joining ST for the hike. Perhaps in sync with the events/activity schedule at Tumble Hill.

    (3) In September, a hike nearby Hammondsport, NY and after-hike social at Bully Hill Vineyards which has a fantastic view of Keuka Lake from the property and especially from the restaurant’s covered deck area. In September foliage will be starting to turn, the restaurant is still open at a time that could sync with use for a social, and “leaf peepers” are not yet mobbing the Finger Lakes area. (Bear in mind that as the weeks in September progress, darkness and cooler later day temperatures come progressively sooner.)

    (4) Hike and exploring / water frolicking below the former RR viaduct & “fill” that is nearby to Ann/Rick & Jerri/Tom in Dansville, if one of them is available to Hike Plan.

    (5) There any many suggestions for summer hikes in an article I wrote (the article title reads something like: Just Sayin’ – Summer Hikes), and which exists on the ST website. The article exists in “draft form”, thus likely that only those who have “editor” authorization of some type will be able to read the article.

    (6) Consider a join-in with a hike planned by another hiking club/organization. Likely there are a number of options. FYI: Saturday, July 8th 2017 in the morning, VHT is leading a hike at Wesley Hill Nature Preserve.
