Springwater
NY
This Sunday, July 8, 2012 4:00 we will have our first kayak/canoe adventures of the summer season. Join us on Hemlock Lake, one of our pristine “little finger lakes” and the Hemlock/Canadice State Forest, for a hike or a kayak/canoe adventure. This area is known for it’s sighting of bald eagles, blue herons, fish, inlet and wetland area of the Springwater Creek, and steep forested shorelines.
Kayak/canoers will meet at 3:30 to prepare for a launch at 4:00 at the South Boat Launch, just off RT 15A in the Town of Springwater. They will travel into the Springwater Creek area and along the southern and western shores of Hemlock Lake.
Hikers will meet at the South Boat Launch at 4:00 for a group picture, and then will hike the Lakeside Trail, find the old foundations of previous cottages, rest by the shoreline, and explore some of the tributaries that feed Hemlock Lake. Hikers will be divided into two groups this week: Naturalists will be given opportunities to learn about summer wildflowers, photography, and learn about the history of the eagles on Hemlock Lake. Tourists/Climbers will explore the footpath past the trail into a more wilderness area, hike up some tributaries, and search for mushrooms.
After hike social (optional) will be a tailgate in the parking lot at Reynolds Gull off Rt. 15A at 6:30. Hikers can cool off by the waters of Reynolds Gull. Bring a dish to pass and please note no grill or cookouts are allowed in the Hemlock/Canadice State Forest.
