We have canceled this event due to weather.
Please join the Springwater Trails and the Livingston Outdoors Club for a hiking and boating outing on Canadice Lake.
On Sunday at 4:00PM, we will meet at the Canadice Canoe Launch at the South End of Canadice Lake, on Canadice Lake Rd. Watch for group gathering on road. And two very cute Westies.
Sunday looks to be hot so we will adjust hike lengths according to each group’s tolerance. The general forecast calls for Thunderstorms and Wind. If we have lightning or whitecaps, we will stay off the water – bring your hiking shoes so you can hike if it is too windy to boat.Be sure to bring plenty of water, bug spray, sun screen and a hat.
Also, bring leashes for all dogs. Remember that Canadice Lake is Rochester’s water supply, therefore absolutely no swimming, wading or dog paddling. Stepping into lake to launch boats is permitted.
Watercrafters: Canoes and kayaks will depart directly from the boat launch. Come early to unload your boat to be ready to depart right after the group photo at 4:00PM. The group will explore the inlet of the lake and will cross the lake to check on the hikers. Nothing too strenuous so first time floaters, don’t be shy. We welcome all skill levels.
The Naturalist and Tourist hikers will start their hike heading south along Canadice Lake Rd to the trail entrance (.07m).
Naturalists: Easy, level walk along the lake with spectacular views. Ellen will identify wildflowers and answer any questions you may have about the local flora. Hopefully Gene will be along to handle the fungi and bird sightings. (Watch for the eagles!) Ellen will adjust length of hike with respect to heat and fatigue.
Tourists: Expect a flat 4 mile hike across the inlet and along the west side of the lake. The tourists will hike 2miles north, then reverse to return to the boat launch. Distance will be adjusted depending on the heat.
Climbers: We will shuttle to Rob’s trailhead on 15A. From there we will climb down the hill and out along the lake to south entrance off Canadice Lake Rd for a 5 mile hike. It should be a degree or two cooler in the woods and we will slow down to adjust for the heat. But bring lots of water.
After the hike, join us for the After Hike Social at the pull-off along the Canoe Launch. (There is a potty there). Bring a dish to pass, your drinks and a chair. If you can’t bring a dish, come anyway, and drop something in the $$basket$$. Stay cool and see you Sunday!
