UNDAUNTED, WE TRY LETCHWORTH AGAIN.

This Sunday, November 4, 2012 2:00 – 4:00, Eastern standard time (remember to turn your clocks back) the Springwater Trails hiking group is going back to Letchworth. Our starting point will again be the Parade grounds but, this time, we will hike north, on the well marked Letchworth branch of the Finger Lakes Trail. Bring your cameras, as there will be some great autumn views of the falls and gorges that make up the Grand Canyon of the East.

This hike will be a “one way” hike so we will need to stage several cars at the endpoints. To help with this, please send an email to [email protected] if you are planning to hike with us. Please include the group you would like to hike with, and if you are able to park your car at an endpoint if we provide a ride to the start point. We would need to meet at the end point at 1:40 to get to the parade grounds on time.

The available groups are:
Climbers: 4 miles, a steady pace along the FLT Letchworth Branch..
Tourists: 3miles, along the Genesee Valley Greenway trail with time to see the remains of the Genesee Valley Canal.
Naturalists: 2 miles, a slower pace along the common part of the two hikes. Take time to notice the small natural details.

The Climbers will head north the FLT Letchworth Branch trail for a little less than 4 miles, to Dygert Rd. We will have a car spotted on Dygert to bring us all back to the Parade Grounds.
The Tourists, lead by Pam, will start on the same trail, but will cross River Rd onto the Greenway Trail to the Deep Cut where the builders of the Genesee Valley Canal removed approximately 600,000 cubic yards of earth so that no additional locks would be needed for the canal. Cars spotted on Short Tract Rd will return the hikers to the Parade Grounds.
Naturalists will plan to stop at the River Rd end of Williams Rd where a final car will return them to the Parade Grounds.

With the time change, we thought that finding your apple pie by flashlight might be a bit more of a challenge than we’d like. So, if anyone is hungry, let’s adjourn, in the gathering twilight, to the Sunrise Restaurant, in Dansville, and enjoy a hearty dinner and some good fellowship.

Directions Check the website https://springwatertrails.org for directions to the Parade Grounds in Letchworth Park.

If you would like to carpool, you are invited to meet at one of two locations.

In Springwater, meet at the Town Hall at 1:00. Plan to leave the Town Hall at 1:10 sharp.

In Dansville, meet in the parking lot behind the Sunrise Restaurant at 1:15. Plan to leave the parking lot at 1:25 sharp.
