I think we can safely expect a winter hike on Sunday. The Springwater Trails hike will be held at the Hopkins house at the corner of Schribner and Giles Roads in Springwater. We will walk through the fields and woods on the Hopkins property and on the neighboring farms. The hikers will head to the top of the hills and enjoy the beauty of the open fields. Meanwhile hikers with snowshoes will head out looking for those drifts and steep slopes that show of the value of snowshoes. Maybe we can convince Dena to walk with us and demonstrate the problems you can get into without snowshoes!
Following the hike, the social will be held at the Hopkins house. Linda will provide taco fixings. Please come and be ready to hike at 2:00 Park on Scribner Rd just around the corner from the driveway and bring your snowshoes and a dish to pass and your beverage to the house.
Linda will lead the hikers. Mark will lead the snowshoers. We will also have a well marked trail for the Naturalists to follow as a group. It looks like Mac will need to join the Naturalists as his short legs are pretty unhappy with the snow. We all will return to the house at about 4:00 for a social and possibly an outdoor fire. Note that for most of the route, the snow is only about 2 inches deep with no base. I do not think skis will work very well.
Please check the directions here, to avoid seasonal roads.
