Please join us on a section of the Crescent Trail in Perinton that Springwater Trails has not explored in the past.
On February 15, we will meet at the Horizon Hill parking area on Garnsey Rd near Bushnell Basin. We will lead two hikes, one to the south into the Horizon Hill Conservation Area, and one to the north to McCord Woods.
These trails are well used, so good hiking shoes are likely sufficient, but snowshoes or mini-spikes will provide better traction. Dress warmly according to the weather.
The Shorter Hike: This hike is about 1 mile, but may be extended to 1.5 or more miles depending on conditions. Detailed directions:
- Head out of the car park on the Orange Trail
- Go up hill on the Orange trail (ignore Blue trail to your right). You will be going up a steep hill.
- After about 20 minutes the orange rail dips down to a bridge. On your right at the bridge there are two Red trails on either side of the bridge headed downhill. The first trail is labeled Allan’s Trail. Continue on the Orange trail past both of the Red trails.
- You will come to a viewpoint with a bench. Take the Red trail to your right. Continue on the red trail downhill until you reach the Blue trail.
- Take a right onto the Blue Trail. After 10 minute you will see a sign for Nancy’s Glenn.
- Turn right on the Red trail up to Nancy’s Glenn where you can explore.
- Go back down on the Red trails on either side of the creek.
- Turn right on the Blue trail to continue before the walk up to Nancy’s Glen.
- The Blue trail ends at the Orange trail. Take a left to the Car Park nearby.
This hike lends itself to several alternative routes. If you would like to take advantage of one of these, please let your leader know and travel with another hiker for everyone’s safety.
- At the Bridge, and the Red Allan’s Trail you can head back to the car park taking the first Red Trail before the bridge. This is Allan’s trail, which will take you through Nancy’s Glen. Then continue on Allan’s trail that ends at a Blue trail. Take a right on the Blue trail. This Blue trail ends at the Orange trail. Take a left to the Car Park nearby.
- At the bench, hikers that wish to add about a half mile, can continue on the orange trail. You will come to an intersection with the Blue trail. Turn right onto the Blue trail and continue past a short Red trail on your right to the sign for Nancy’s Glenn.
- At the Sign for Nancy’s Glenn, you can continue straight on the Blue Trail which ends at the Orange trail. Take a left to the Car Park nearby.

The Longer Hike: This hike is about 3 miles round trip and is straight forward to explain:
- From the car park, head toward Garnsey Rd to the trail head across the road. Follow the orange trail north between neighborhoods. The trail passes several side trails that lead out to the neighboring streets, but we will stay on the orange trail.
- When we arrive at McCoord Woods, the Blue trail branches of to the left. We will stay on the Orange trail until we come to the other end of the Blue trail.
- Turn left onto the Blue trail. Continue until you come back to the Orange trail.
- Turn right on the Orange trail and follow the tracks back to Garnsey Rd and the cars.
At the left onto the Blue trail, the Orange trail continues to Kreag Rd and Kreag Road Park, if hikers need some extra distance.
Social: Following the hike, please join us at Bocaccini’s Italian Bistro for more socializing.
