Rush Oak Openings Preserve – Directions

The Rush Oak Openings (aka Quinn Oak Openings) (42.9615, -77.6679) parking area is on Honeoye Falls 5 Points Rd.  Use caution parking since this is at a blind curve in the road.

From Springwater: Take Rt 15A north from Springwater through Hemlock and Lima (21.7 miles).  Just as you enter Monroe County (Mendon), stay left on 15A past the fork for Honeoye Falls and turn left onto Honeoye Falls 6 Rd at the traffic light.  Take the second right (2.6 miles) onto 5 Points Rd.  Take the first left onto Honeoye Falls 5 Points Rd.  The parking area is on the left side at the blind curve in the road.

From Geneseo:  Take I390 N to Exit 10 (Rt 5 & 20).  Turn left at the end of the exit, under the expressway.  Take the first right onto Rt 15 North.  Follow Rt 15 for 4.3 miles and turn right onto Honeoye Falls 5 Point Rd.  The parking area in on the right at the blind curve in the road (0.9 mi).

From Rochester: Take I390 S to exit 11. At the light at the end of the exit, turn left onto Rt 15 South.  Follow Rt 15 for 2.9 miles.  Turn left onto Honeoye Falls 5 Points Rd.  The parking area in on the right at the blind curve in the road (0.9 mi).

 

To get to the Social at Tom Wahl’s Restaurant/picnic pavilionGo west on Honeoye Falls 5 Points Rd.  Take the first left onto Rt 15 South.  After 4.3 miles, turn right onto Rts 5 & 20.  The Tom Wahl’s is on the left just before the Tops store about 1.3 miles.

All Western Evergreen Nursery and Christmas Tree Farm – Directions

The All Western Evergreen Nursery and Christmas Tree Farm offers pre-cut and cut-your-own trees native to the western United States.

Directions:
From Springwater:
Go west from the Springwater light on Rt 15 North.  Just past the top of the hill, turn left on Co Rd  38 (Liberty Pole Rd).  The farm is on the left 1.1 miles from Rt 15 at 6840 Liberty Pole Rd.

From Geneseo: Go south on NY 63. About 6.4 miles after passing Rt 408, turn left on County Road 1 at Groveland.  This road becomes CR 1A at Scottsburg (rt 256) and then Liberty Pole Rd (CR 38).  It is 7.1 miles from Groveland to the All Western Evergreen Tree Farm.

From Honeoye: Take 20A west to Hemlock and 15A south to Springwater.  Then follow the Springwater directions.

CR 60From Rochester: Take I390 south to Exit 9 (NY 15 / Lakeville).  Turn left onto NY 15 and follow Rt 15 through Lakeville and Livonia (16.5 miles).  Just past Webster’s Crossing stay straight on CR 60 when Rt 15 bears left.  Take the first right off CR 60 onto Liberty Pole Rd (CR 38). The farm is on the left at 6840 Liberty Pole Rd.

Wesley Rd Trail Head (42.72766,-77.4848) – Wesley Hill Nature Preserve – Directions

Directions to Wesley Rd Trailhead:

A word of caution – do not try to access Wesley Road from down on East Lake Road, in spite of what your gps might tell you. The road is closed from East Lake Rd up to the Trail Head. If you try it you will readily see why.

From Honeoye: take route 20A east through Honeoye to East Lake Road (CR 33). Turn right onto East Lake Road. (If coming from Bristol or points east, its a left onto East Lake Road).  Take the first left, staying on CR 33, then the first right onto Pinewood Hill which becomes Gulick Road. Travel 3.4 miles, then turn right onto Wesley Road. Parking area is on the right side and can fit about 8 vehicles; the rest of us can park on the side of the road (it’s paved).

From Springwater: Head north on Rt 15A toward Hemlock.  Just before Hemlock, turn right on Rt 20A.  Follow Rt 20A to Honeoye and then follow the directions above.

From Naples: From the southern end of Naples, head west on Co Rd 36. Follow Co Rd 36 for 1.2 to the first right turn on Gulick Rd.  Follow Gulick for 8.4 miles and turn left onto Wesley Rd.  The parking area is on the right one mile down Wesley Rd.

High Tor, Basset Rd Parking – Directions

A tor is defined as a peak or a rocky hill or mountain.  The High Tor Wildlife Management Area in Naples consists of 6100 acres managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.  The area south of Rt 245 is scenic steep wooded terrain.  North of Rt 245 is marsh bordering the south end of Canandaigua Lake.

The Basset Rd entrance is the southern parking area for the high portion of the area.

From Wayland: Head east on NY Route 21 toward N Cohocton and Naples.  Turn left at the stop sign in N Cohocton to stay on Rt 21.  At the stop sign in Naples, turn right onto NY 53.  Follow Rt 53 for 1.3 miles, and turn left onto Italy Valley Rd (Co Rd 21).  After 2.1 miles, turn left onto Basset Rd (Co Rd 21).  The parking area is on the left about 0.3 miles up Basset.

From Penn Yan: Take NY-54A S past the Keuka Lake State Park to Branchport. Continue straight onto Italy Hill Rd for 4.9 miles. The road turns left at the intersection with Italy Friend Rd, then crosses Pulver Rd on the right and Pulteney Rd on the left (they are the same road!). Just past that intersection, turn right onto Italy Hill Turnpike. 

In 3.0 miles at the bottom of the hill, take a slight left onto Italy Valley Rd. In 0.8 miles, turn right onto Basset Rd. In 2.2 miles, the parking area will be on the right.

From Honeoye: Take Co Rd 36 into Naples.
From Canandaigua:  Take NY 21 South into Naples.
From Rochester and Victor: Take Rt 444 South from Victor.  Turn left on 5 & 20.  Turn right on Rt 64, past Bristol Mountain, to Rt 21 South.  Stay right on Rt 21 into Naples.

From Naples: Take Main St (Rt 21) South through the town of Naples.  Continue on CR 53 when Rt 21 turns right.  Follow Rt 53 for 1.3 miles, and turn left onto Italy Valley Rd (Co Rd 21).  After 2.1 miles, turn left onto Basset Rd (Co Rd 21).  The parking area is on the left about 0.3 miles up Basset.
